Traveling to India

Our team of 12 left San Juan, PR on Jan 14th for Mumbai, India. We flew from San Juan to Atl, Georgia and then to Mumbai. India is approximately 10 hours ahead of Puerto Rico, so the team definitely felt jet lag. I did not know what to expect on this trip as I had never been to India before. The poverty in Mumbai was overwhelming. We saw the poverty first hand as we partnered with a local church to do ministry in the slums. On our way to do ministry I saw children on the side of the street begging for money and for food. There were people everywhere that had nothing. I saw a whole family living under a tarp beneath a bridge. That was their home. The slums seemed to dominate the city. The filth was overwhelming and the stench at times seemed to take your breath away. On one of our visits to the slum I met Rhinna a professing Hindu that invited me into her home for tea. I grabbed the rest of our little team and we headed to her house. Her house was one small room with a bed, sink, and place to wash up. She lived there with her three boys and husband. We were able to share the truth of Jesus with her and pray for her and her children. We invited her to come to church the next day and told her we would be looking for her. We went from house to house praying for people and sharing Jesus. It was awesome! We prayed with people for so long we were all losing our voices. It was such an amazing experience for me to see how God works through the prayers of His children. The people that we met wanted us to pray with them and were grateful for our concern for them. Even though we couldn't help every single person in a physical way, God opened up the door for us to connect with their hearts through prayer.
